Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs)
The ball was created as a way for couples to have a special evening together, and for friends to have a fun night of socializing with a good reason to get dressed up. Some friends have affectionately referred to the ball as “Adult Prom”, and I love that description. It is a chance to do something fun and out of the ordinary.
You are, of course! Anyone that would like to participate is welcome to join us for the ball. We do ask everyone who comes to contribute to the dinner. So if you’re good with that, come join us. In the past it has only been married couples that have come, but if you don’t have a spouse, or they aren’t interested in coming, grab a friend, coworker, or random person off the street, and come join the party. As long as there are two of you, we would love to have you!
The dress code is entirely up to you. One of the reasons I created this event was so that I would have a good reason to get all dressed up. I love to go all out and make it fancy – and so do many others. Some prefer to keep it a little more casual. Whatever is comfortable for you is what you should wear. Do you want to go all out? Bring it on. Are you barely able to make it in a skirt and top? We are excited that you want to join us. For 2022 we are asking that everyone wear a masquerade mask.
How does it work?
Registration is the first step. If a registration button is visibule above, then registration is open. Please get registered.
Two to three weeks before the Ball, a Food Survey will be sent out and need to be completed. One to two weeks before the Ball, the Food Sign Up wil be sent out. Each couple will be responsible to sign up for ONE item on the food sign up and bring it to the Ball. Because the event is a “potluck” style, it is imperative that each person’s item arrives at the Ball. Sometimes things happen and people are unable to attend at the last minute, but they are still responsible to bring their item. If this were not the case, we would never have a complete meal.
We have the capacity for 48 “couples”.
If you don’t sign up until after we have reached capacity, please sign up anyway. Every single year we have 10-20% of people that back out in the last 48 hours (due to a multitude of circumstances). Even if we are over capacity today, you will almost certainly be able to come if you sign up. Up to this point, we have never had to turn anyone away.
What form of communication is used?
We rely exclusively on EMAIL. It will be important that we have your correct email address (which we will gather when you register), that you check your email regularly, and that you have approved emails from thewarbys@gmail.com so that they will not be sent to your spam folder.
What about children?
We want this to be a fun opportunity for adults to get together. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide any form of child care. For this reason, children are not allowed at the event. The exception we are happy to make is for nursing infants. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
The Ball is held at 3006 Pleasant Drive in Cedar Falls. It is the meetinghouse for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the fun happens in the gym.
It was fun. The meal was yummy, and I liked how we switched around tables after each course so we could talk with more people.
I love the balls! Very good food and always something I have never had before. I love the variety of music to dance to or just sit and listen to while visiting.
Smiles, laughter, glittering dresses, crisp ties, decadent aromas, flavorful foods. The fairy tale decorations transport the attendees to a luxurious place where romancde is rekindled, freindships are strengthened and rich memories are created.
The Formal balls are always something to look forward to. It’s all the excitement of going to a high school dance, but you don’t have to worry about who your date is going to be. It’s having a night of food and fun with your best friends without the teenage angst and drama. It’s a time to show off those dance moves, or learn that they faded away a few kids ago, but no one is judging anyway. It’s the must attend event of the year!
It’s amazing how a coordinated group effort under the direction of Candice becomes a magical night. I love dancing with my husband, but there are very few chances that we get to actually do it, so it’s been wonderful to have this to look forward to every year.
